Description:

Our client is a well-established manufacturer specializing in Professional Mobile Radio (PMR) and secure digital mobility equipment and systems. It is currently expanding its product portfolio to include a cloud-based managed service offering designed for emergency services and mission-critical customers worldwide. As a prominent player in the global Critical Communications market, they have over 70 years of continuous support to major organizations and government bodies.


Hybrid - Worcester or Derby up to 3 Days Per Month / Candidates MUST have right to work in the UK and be able to commute to either West Midlands or East Midlands on a monthly basis.

Role Purpose:

As a Linux Developer, you will focus on developing highly scalable, distributed systems to connect mission-critical applications on mobile (vehicular) devices to cloud infrastructure.

What you will be doing:

As a Linux Developer your role will design and develop end-to-end applications emphasizing resilience, security, performance, scalability, and supportability while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, user-friendly software solutions. Actively participate in Agile development processes, coordinate with various stakeholders, and maintain a comprehensive understanding of the broader software ecosystem and tools.

What experience you'll have:

• Linux audio systems and hardware codecs, such as the SGTL5000
• Experience of the iMX8 family of CPUs and peripherals (or similar Cortex ARM based CPUs)
• An understanding of the kernel's Direct Rendering Manager, EDID and HDMI standards
• Experience with communications protocols to accommodate low-bandwidth, high latency and/or high error-rate bearers
• Knowledge of multiple front-end languages and libraries (e.g. HTML/ CSS, JavaScript, XML, jQuery, Rust)
• Knowledge of multiple back-end languages (e.g. C#, Java, Python) and JavaScript frameworks (e.g. Angular, React, Node.js)
• Familiarity with databases (e.g. MySQL, MongoDB, PostgreSQL), web servers (e.g. Apache) and UI/UX design


Skills and Attributes you'll have:

• 3+ years commercial C/C++ development experience (Unix/POSIX API, open source, GNU toolchain)
• Proficient with Git and Subversion source control
• Familiar with day-to-day Linux usage (Bash command line & utilities)
• Familiar with Debian/Devuan Linux distribution
• Ability to debug new hardware with an oscilloscope and logic analyser
• Networking, including tun/tap interfaces, DSCP, iptables, routing, DNS, DHCP interception
• Cryptography for small messages, including pre-shared keys and public key encryption
