Senior Backup & Data Protection Specialist - Rubrik Focus Overview
We are seeking a self-motivated, passionate, and intellectually curious Senior Backup & Data Protection Specialist to join our Storage and Backup Operations team. In this role, you'll be responsible for managing the storage and backup infrastructure, ensuring enterprise storage, backup, and archive services are robust, resilient, and high-performing. Your expertise will help deliver exceptional service, ensuring data is highly available with minimal latency and recoverable on demand. As a specialist and subject matter expert (SME) for global backup and data protection, you will play a lead role in backup implementations, migrations, and ongoing operations. Key Responsibilities - Act as a lead Backup and Data Protection SME, overseeing the global Rubrik-based backup infrastructure.
- Implement and migrate backup solutions with a focus on enterprise-level Rubrik deployments.
- Configure SLA domains in Rubrik to align with business requirements.
- Analyze daily backup failures, systematically identify root causes, and resolve issues to achieve near 100% backup success rates.
- Collaborate with team members, guide them in resolving issues, and foster a problem-solving culture.
- Proactively monitor and manage storage capacity to ensure availability.
- Escalate unresolved issues to appropriate internal teams, adhering to standard escalation procedures.
- Engage with Rubrik support and facilitate escalations to address Rubrik-specific challenges.
- Interact with internal teams, including escalations and engineering, to streamline communication and resolution processes.
- Maintain and manage the operational health of backup systems while driving process improvements.
What You'll Bring - Experience:
- Well-experienced in Implementation, Migration, Operations, and Support of backup systems.
- Extensive knowledge of enterprise backup solutions, particularly Rubrik (essential). Familiarity with NetBackup, TSM, or Avamar is beneficial.
- Technical Expertise:
- Strong understanding of Rubrik architecture, SLA domain configuration, and system optimization.
- Experience with hybrid backup systems spanning on-premises and public cloud environments (AWS, Azure preferred).
- Solid grasp of regulatory frameworks such as GDPR and DORA, and their impact on data protection strategies.
- ITIL Process: Knowledge of Incident, Change, Problem, and Request Management processes.
- Automation: Ability to automate and streamline backup processes for operational efficiency.
- Communication & Leadership:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex ideas clearly.
- Proven ability to engage with a range of stakeholders, including technical teams, business users, project managers, and senior leadership.
- Personal Qualities:
- Results-driven and highly organized, with the ability to independently prioritize impactful work.
- Willingness to adapt and expand expertise across the technology stack.
Desirable Experience - Familiarity with hybrid cloud backup strategies and multi-cloud ecosystems.
- Implementation or migration projects from legacy backup tools to Rubrik.
