Core Network Engineer - Portsmouth - Up to 55,000

Our client is seeking an experienced Core Network Engineer to join their team and support the design, deployment, and management of their full-fibre broadband network across the South of England.

The Role
Based in Portsmouth with travel to data centres and network sites as needed, you will:

• Configure and manage Layer 2 and 3 network elements (routers, switches, CGNAT, firewalls/VPNs, OLTs).
• Optimise traffic and manage peering and transit connections.
• Monitor and troubleshoot network performance, resolving issues effectively.
• Perform upgrades, security patching, and technology refreshes.
• Maintain network documentation and best practices.
• Collaborate with vendors and support teams.

Requirements

• 5+ years of network engineering experience in an ISP environment.
• Strong Juniper expertise (command line essential); certifications such as JNCIS-SP or JNCIS-ENT preferred.
• Deep knowledge of IPv4/IPv6, EVPN, MPLS, VXLAN, CGNAT, DHCP, DNS, and GPON networks.
• Experience with FTTH platforms, particularly OLTs.
• Strong troubleshooting and network performance skills.
• Valid UK driving licence and the right to work in the UK.
