We are seeking a proactive and user-focused IT Engineer to join our IT Services team. This role is crucial in providing second line technical support for college systems and infrastructure, ensuring smooth and efficient IT operations across all campuses and outreach centres in North Lincolnshire and South Yorkshire.

The IT Engineer is responsible for maintaining hardware, software, IT equipment (including telephones and audio/visual), and network infrastructure throughout the college and its remote sites. This includes setting up new hardware, installing or amending software, and providing support and training to staff and students.

Essential Criteria:
  • Level 3 IT qualification.
  • GCSE Maths and English Grade 4 or equivalent.
  • Experience of working in an IT support environment.
  • Detailed knowledge of Windows operating systems and network configurations.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and architecture.
  • Ability to offer a high level of customer service and provide easy-to-understand feedback to users.
  • Good problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft 365 products.
  • Ability to work within a team.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to colleagues in technical and non-technical terms.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Good timekeeping and flexible approach to working hours.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to document knowledge.
  • Full UK driving licence.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
  • Maintain hardware, software, IT equipment, and network infrastructure throughout the college and its remote sites.
  • Set up new hardware and IT equipment and install or amend software as needed.
  • Provide support, instruction, and training for all staff and students in the use of IT equipment and software, documenting known errors and their solutions.
  • Respond to support requests from staff and learners, keeping knowledge of systems and applications software up to date.
  • Undertake appropriate administrative duties.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for hardware, IT equipment, software installations, and knowledgebase articles for end users.
  • Maintain records in the Helpdesk system, raise new tickets when requested by a customer, and escalate as necessary.
  • Deliver to agreed service contracts and SLAs.
  • Ensure the security of IT equipment, software, and data.
  • Undertake the duties of the IT Helpdesk when instructed by a supervisor or line manager.
  • Undertake other duties in line with the grade of the post as required by the department or customer.
